- In a significant blow to cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of 39 suspected internet fraudsters in Oyo State. The suspects, arrested in a sting operation, were found guilty of various offenses, including impersonation, cheating, and possession of fraudulent documents.
Those convicted include:
– Ayomide (one year community service or N200,000 fine)
– Tunde (one month jail term or N250,000 fine)
– Abeeb Ayomide, Adeleke, Babatunde, Biodun, Oyindamola, Oluwatobi, Olatunbosun, Uche, Akinyimika, Adisa, Olashile, and Adeniran (six months community service each and N50,000 fine)
– Sijuola (one month community service or N100,000 fine)
– Olatunde and Opemiposi (three months community service)
– Taoreed Abidoun (three months imprisonment)
– Mujeeb (four months jail term)
– Olasunkanmi and Abideen (six months community service each and N150,000 fine)
– Gbolahan, Damilare, Adebayo, and Abdulrauf (five months community service each and N100,000 fine option)
– Waheed and Samuel (four months community service and N100,000 fine)
– Destiny (two months community service)
– Olamide, Oluremi, Damilola, Justice, Josaiah, Emmanuel, and Shiyanbola (one-year jail term each or fines ranging from N30,000 to N120,000)
The convicts also forfeited properties and items recovered from them to the Federal Government. This crackdown on cybercrime demonstrates the EFCC’s commitment to protecting the public from fraud and ensuring justice is served.
