A medical laboratory scientist and youth corps member hailed from Ilorin, Kwara State, Ibraheem Olasunkanmi Qoseem, is set to make waves in Ilesha, Osun State, through a personal initiative aimed at promoting cautious antimicrobial use.
Qoseem, a graduate of Kwara State University, Malete, has identified the misuse and overuse of antimicrobial drugs as a significant driver of local antimicrobial resistance patterns.
Inspired to make a positive impact on public health, Qoseem is launching the “Antimicrobial Resistance Educational Aids (AMR eduAids)” project, funded by several sponsors including DRASA Health Trust, the Alliance Against Antimicrobial Resistance, Champions’ Educational Foundation, Premium Health and Educational Consultancy, and Cytobiz Medical Limited.
Through this project, Qoseem aims to empower communities in Ilesha to fight resistant infections and adopt behaviors that encourage responsible antimicrobial use. At least ten communities, secondary schools, and patent medicine vendors will be engaged in this initiative.
With the help of this project, Qoseem hopes to ultimately improve the public health situation in Ilesha. By raising awareness about the dangers of antimicrobial misuse and abuse, he aspires to create a future where these practices are a relic of the past.
Through the lens of his professional expertise, Qoseem sees an opportunity to positively impact the community he serves, and to leave a lasting legacy in the fight against antimicrobial resistance. As a young medical laboratory scientist, his enthusiasm and passion for this issue are sure to inspire others.
