Kwara State Government has appealed to local councils to ensure that the recently acquired tractors, including their accompanying implements, are made accessible to farmers in rural communities. This effort, according to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development Hon. Abubakar Bata, is a step towards enhancing food security within the state.
Speaking at the unveiling of the tractors, Hon. Bata emphasized the importance of utilizing these resources effectively to boost farming activities in the grassroots and support the state’s larger food security initiatives.
“The decision of the local councils to purchase these tractors and the many accessories is a thoughtful one, and I believe it goes to corroborate the position of His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq that no one takes local council funds,” he said.
He commended the local councils for their foresight in making such a significant investment and highlighted it as evidence of the financial autonomy enjoyed by local councils under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s administration.
Hon. Bata urged the local councils to maximize the use of these tractors to increase agricultural output and improve the livelihoods of farmers within their respective communities.
“We urge the local councils to endeavor to make these new tractors available for massive agricultural activities in their areas. We believe this will complement the massive investment of the state government in this regard”, he concluded.
