The Lagos State Government has announced plans to shut and divert traffic on Eko Bridge to facilitate emergency repairs by the Federal Ministry of Works. According to State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the repairs will be carried out in four phases, with intermittent full or partial closures of the bridge.
To minimize disruptions, motorists are advised to use alternative routes during the repairs. For those heading to the Island from Funsho Williams Avenue, recommended routes include:
– Using the service lane at Alaka to connect Costain and access Eko Bridge
– Accessing Costain to connect Eko Bridge to link Apongbon
– Connecting Apongbon inwards Eko Bridge to link Costain to access Funsho Williams Avenue
– Using Costain inwards Alaka/Funsho Williams Avenue or Apapa Road from Costain to link Oyingbo and access Adekunle to link Third Mainland Bridge
Motorists heading to Surulere can use Costain to link Breweries inwards Abebe Village to connect Eric Moore/Bode Thomas.
LASTMA officers will be deployed to the rehabilitation areas and alternative routes to minimize travel delays and inconvenience. The Lagos State Government urges motorists to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the repairs.”
