Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has firmly denied rumors suggesting that he is on the verge of leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The speculation began after billboards featuring his image alongside the APC logo were reportedly spotted in Benin, the capital of Edo State, sparking widespread chatter about a possible defection.
In a statement issued by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Mutfwang dismissed the rumors as “entirely false and misleading,” clarifying that he remains a committed and loyal member of the PDP. He stressed that he has never discussed switching political parties and has no intention of doing so.
“This orchestrated falsehood, crafted by certain individuals and executed by mischief-makers, is aimed at creating division between the Governor and the leadership of the PDP, as well as his dedicated supporters in Plateau State,” the statement read. Mutfwang reaffirmed that his loyalty lies with the PDP, the party under which he was overwhelmingly elected by the people of Plateau State in the 2023 elections.
The governor further noted that the unauthorized billboards were a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation and create confusion within the political landscape. He urged the public to disregard the “fabricated story” and not to share the misleading information further.
Mutfwang emphasized his commitment to upholding the values of the PDP and to delivering on the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Plateau State. He assured his supporters that the claims were baseless and meant only to serve the selfish interests of political detractors.
