Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has appointed Professor Medinat Salman as the inaugural Vice Chancellor of the newly established Kwara State University of Education (KWSUED) in Ilorin. This appointment marks a significant milestone as Prof. Salman becomes the first female professor from the Ilorin Emirate to hold such a prestigious position.
Prof. Salman, a distinguished scholar in Mathematics Education, will serve in an acting capacity until a permanent Vice Chancellor is appointed. Prior to this role, she was a senior lecturer and the coordinator of the Educational Technology Centre at the University of Ilorin.
Her academic journey is impressive, with a Bachelor of Education from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, a Master’s degree, and a doctoral degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Ilorin. Her research interests include gender issues in mathematics and science education, and innovations in mathematics education in developing countries.
Governor AbdulRazaq’s decision, announced through his Chief Press Secretary Rafiu Ajakaye, is effective immediately. This appointment is seen as a progressive step towards enhancing educational leadership and gender representation in academia.
