Renowned Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti has raised eyebrows by questioning the sudden wealth of some of his fellow musicians. This comes in the wake of the ongoing money laundering scandal involving popular cross-dresser Bobrisky.
During a live session, Seun Kuti expressed his disbelief at how some musicians, with only a couple of songs to their name, are able to afford luxury cars like Lamborghinis and G-Wagons. “I’ve been touring for over 20 years, and I’m only just building my first house. Where is the music money coming from?” he queried.
Kuti’s comments come amid the scandal involving Bobrisky, who is accused of bribing officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him. The allegations were brought to light by social media influencer Verydarkman, who released a voice recording purportedly of Bobrisky admitting to the bribe.
Seun Kuti revealed that Verydarkman had first approached him with the explosive evidence, and he had given his blessing to make the information public. Kuti’s frustration also stems from the perceived preferential treatment Bobrisky received from the EFCC, contrasting it with his own experiences of being harshly treated by law enforcement.
