Egbin Power Plc, Nigeria’s largest power generation company, has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting academic excellence and supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by awarding scholarships to students from its host communities. This initiative, now in its 8th edition, aligns with SDG 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
During the recent scholarship award ceremony, students from public schools in Egbin, Ijede, and Ipakan were presented with scholarships covering all school expenses, including tuition, textbooks, and uniforms. The selection process for the scholarships was rigorous, involving verification, pre-tests, boot camps, and final selection stages conducted by an independent body.
Mokhtar Bounour, CEO of Egbin Power Plc, emphasized the company’s dedication to education as a cornerstone for societal transformation and economic growth. “Education is the foundation of development in any community, society, or nation. It brings sustainability, progress, and raises future leaders for a more prosperous society,” Bounour stated. He highlighted that the scholarship program is designed to strengthen the developmental capacities of individuals and communities, ensuring rapid development in the host areas.
Beneficiaries of the scholarship expressed their gratitude, with Abimbola Akinbiyi, one of the awardees, praising Egbin Power for encouraging students to excel academically. Her father, Mark Akinbiyi, also commended the company, community leaders, and teachers for their support.
Egbin Power’s scholarship program is an attestation to its commitment to promoting educational achievement and contributing to the sustainable development of its host communities.
