The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Justin Madugu as the interim head coach of the Super Falcons. This decision was ratified by the NFF’s Executive Committee following a recommendation from the Technical and Development Sub-Committee. Madugu’s appointment comes at a critical time as the team prepares for a busy calendar of competitions, including the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco next summer.
Madugu takes over from Randy Waldrum, who stepped down from his role just a few weeks after the conclusion of the Paris Olympic Games. Although Waldrum had initially expressed an interest in continuing as head coach, he ultimately resigned due to family obligations. However, sources within the NFF revealed that his contract had expired, and a decision was made not to renew it.
As interim head coach, Madugu will be responsible for leading the Super Falcons through their preparations and competitive engagements until a permanent head coach is appointed. His immediate challenge will be to build a cohesive and competitive squad capable of excelling on the continental stage. The Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is expected to be a significant test for Madugu and the team as they aim to reclaim their dominance in African women’s football.
The NFF has assured fans that the process of selecting a permanent head coach is underway, with the aim of appointing a highly qualified candidate who can guide the Super Falcons to new heights in both continental and global competitions.
