Popular social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM) has issued a public apology to renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, during an investigative hearing at the House of Representatives. This apology comes after intense pressure and legal threats from Falana’s representatives.
VDM, whose real name is Martins Otse, appeared before the House of Representatives on September 30, 2024, to address the ₦15 million bribery allegations involving Bobrisky. During the session, VDM retracted his previous statements that had implicated Falana in the scandal, clarifying that he never intended to defame the respected lawyer.
“I apologize for any dent on Femi Falana’s name. I never believed he was involved in the bribery allegations. My comments were based on the assertions made by Bobrisky, and I regret any misunderstanding caused,” VDM stated.
The apology follows a 24-hour ultimatum issued by Falana’s legal team, demanding a retraction and public apology for the defamatory remarks. VDM’s lawyer, Adeyanju Deji, had earlier emphasized that his client held Falana in high regard and had no intention of tarnishing his reputation.
The House of Representatives panel, led by Chairman Yusuf Gagdi, acknowledged VDM’s apology and assured that the investigation into the bribery allegations would continue transparently and impartially.
