The Federal Government of Nigeria on Thursday officially flagged off the dualisation of the 1,068-kilometre Illela-Badagry super highway in Sokoto State. The major infrastructure project, which begins in Illela, Sokoto, and cuts across seven states—Sokoto, Kebbi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos—has been awarded to Hitech Construction Company Limited.
Representing President Bola Tinubu at the event, Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State described the project as a key component of the President’s infrastructure agenda. He lauded Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, for his dedication to realizing the project.
The super highway, initiated nearly five decades ago, is expected to significantly boost economic activity and reduce traffic congestion with six lanes, solar-powered streetlights, and CCTV technology. Minister Umahi highlighted that the project is part of President Tinubu’s larger vision of delivering over 3,000 kilometers of road infrastructure across Nigeria.
