President Bola Tinubu is presiding over the 20th Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at the State House in Abuja, marking the council’s first Thursday session under his administration. The meeting, which commenced at 1:13 p.m., follows Tinubu’s earlier discussion with a delegation from the South-South region.
This session is also the first since the passing of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja. Last week’s FEC meeting, initially set for November 6, was postponed as a mark of respect, according to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
In attendance are Vice President Kashim Shettima, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, is represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office, Dr. Emanso Okop.
As the meeting commenced, representatives from the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning were observed making a presentation to the council, likely in preparation for the 2025 national budget. However, some council members, including the Minister of Environment, Abbas Lawal, are absent as they attend the 2024 UN Climate Change Summit in Baku, Azerbaijan.
