The Kwara State Police Command has arrested two suspects in possession of a stolen Toyota Camry in the state. In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, confirmed that the vehicle, with registration number APP 443 CX, was initially reported stolen in Lagos and later found in the Ipata-Oloje area of Ilorin.
The Toyota Camry, missing from Lagos, was discovered last Friday at a spare parts dealer’s shop in Ipata-Oloje. Acting on a tip-off from the dealer, detectives apprehended the suspects, Gabiyu Lawal (43) from Babasoja, Gambari, Ilorin, and Ademola Waheed (45) from Sango Road, Ilorin, around 6:00 PM on November 22, 2024.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities found a GSM number linked to the car’s owner, Mr. Ajibade Abel of Badagry Road, Lagos. Contacted by the police, Mr. Abel confirmed the car was stolen from a parking lot in Lagos and reported the incident to the Area C Police Command in Surulere, Lagos.
The suspects admitted purchasing the stolen car for the unusually low price of N400,000 and planned to resell it in Ilorin for N1,000,000. The police are currently conducting further investigations to identify additional accomplices and uncover the full extent of their criminal activities.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Victor Olaiya, praised the public for their vigilance and encouraged continued cooperation in providing timely intelligence to ensure a safer Kwara State.
