In a significant political development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, former Minister of Youth and Sports Development and a prominent ally of Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has announced his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The resignation was confirmed in a letter dated December 16, 2024, addressed to the Ward Chairman of Ubandawaki and signed by Abdullahi. In the letter, he expressed deep gratitude to the party leadership for the opportunities he had to serve both the state and the nation.
“I write to formally resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I have had ample time to reflect, and I have come to the difficult conclusion that this is the only tenable option for me at this time,” the statement read.
Abdullahi, who contested as the PDP Kwara Central Senatorial Candidate in the 2023 general election but lost to APC’s Senator Saliu Mustapha, acknowledged the significant moments and privileges he enjoyed while being a member of the party.
His departure is seen as a noteworthy shift in Kwara’s political landscape, particularly due to his longstanding association with the Saraki political dynasty. Abdullahi’s letter hinted at a period of reflection and a need to explore a new political path, signaling potential realignments in the state’s political sphere.
While Abdullahi did not disclose his next political move, his exit adds to the shifting dynamics within the PDP in Kwara State and beyond.
