The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, December 25, Thursday, December 26, 2024, and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, through a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Monday in Abuja.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm festive greetings to all Nigerians, urging them to use the holidays as an opportunity to reflect on the values of love, peace, and unity that the season represents. He emphasized the importance of fostering harmony and strengthening bonds within families and communities during the celebrations.
“The Christmas season is a good moment for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, let us demonstrate kindness and extend goodwill to one another, irrespective of our differences,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo stated.
The Minister also called on citizens to remain committed to peace, unity, and the progress of the nation, which he described as essential for national development.
Reaffirming the government’s dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity, Dr. Tunji-Ojo expressed confidence in the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, which he believes will usher in a better and more prosperous economy in the new year.
While wishing Nigerians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2025, the Minister encouraged everyone to contribute positively to building a united and thriving nation.
