The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning, declaring zero tolerance for assaults on its officers and personnel. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, made this statement during his visit to the Enugu State Command on Friday. He emphasized that any attack on police personnel would provoke an “appropriate response” from the force.
IG Egbetokun elaborated that assaults on police officers are not only criminal acts but also attacks on the entire police institution. He assured that the force would respond collectively to any killing or assault on its personnel to ensure justice is served.
“We will not condone any assault on our police officers, let alone their killing. An attack on a policeman is an attack on me as the IG, and we will not tolerate any act of violence against our officers,” Egbetokun declared.
He continued, “In this year 2025, we are firmly saying no to any assault or killing of our officers. Where any incident occurs, there will be an appropriate and collective response from the force.”
The Inspector General also mentioned ongoing efforts to collaborate with the Federal Government to enhance the welfare of police personnel. He lauded the professionalism of the Enugu State police officers while expressing concerns about a few rogue elements tarnishing the force’s image.
