A serving corps member at Gombe Media Corporation (GMC), Shukurat Temitope Ibrahim, has convened a Stakeholders Engagement Meeting to drive educational development in Gombe State. The event, held at the Government Vocational Training Center in Bolari East, was part of her NYSC Personal Community Development Service (CDS) Project aimed at improving access to quality education.
The meeting brought together parents from Kamara Primary School and the Government Vocational Training Center, alongside community leaders and educators. Discussions focused on the importance of education, the roles of parents, and the collective responsibility in ensuring children have access to essential learning resources.
Shukurat, who is spearheading a project titled “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders in North-East Nigeria through Education,” stressed that community involvement is key to its success. “We are not just doing this for the people; we are doing it with the people,” she emphasized, calling for collaborative efforts to drive change.
Fellow corps member Abdullahi Isaik engaged parents in Hausa, explaining the project’s core initiatives, including the renovation of Kamara Primary School’s toilets, provision of school sandals for 100 students, and distribution of writing materials. He underscored the need for urgent intervention, particularly for children whose parents struggle to afford basic school supplies.
Parents, represented by Mr. Sunusi Yahaya and Mrs. Monica Odch, expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary. They assured their full support, pledging to work with Shukurat to ensure the project’s success.
The Headmaster of Kamara Primary School, Mr. Haminu Ahmed Haruna, and the Principal of the Government Vocational Training Center, Mr. Usman Umar Shettima, praised Shukurat’s dedication to community service. They commended her leadership and pledged their ongoing support for the initiative.
In her closing remarks, Shukurat reaffirmed her commitment to giving back to the community and aligning her project with the NYSC’s Community Development Service (CDS) goals. She called on philanthropists and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative, stressing that collective efforts are crucial for sustaining educational development in Gombe State.
She also extended her gratitude to the Director General of Gombe Media Corporation, Mr. Ibrahim, for his unwavering support and encouragement, as well as to the entire GMC staff for amplifying her project through their platform.
The event was attended by fellow corps members, including Abdullahi Isaik, Jonathan Joel, and Haroon Muhammad, who all lent their support to the initiative.
