Rivers State Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas (retd.), has directed paramilitary agencies to intensify patrols and strengthen collaboration to curb crime and insecurity in the state.
Speaking during a meeting with heads of paramilitary organizations at Government House, Port Harcourt, Ibas emphasized that peace and security are essential for development. He urged security agencies to work together in joint operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring law and order.
“If legitimate businesses cannot operate freely due to insecurity, criminals take over the state,” Ibas warned. He instructed security operatives to crack down on unregistered vehicles and concealed number plates, which pose security threats, and called for improved intelligence sharing among agencies, including the military, DSS, and community-based security networks.
Additionally, the administrator raised concerns over road obstructions caused by overturned tankers and urged enforcement agencies to address traffic violations to prevent casualties.
Ibas assured that the state government will support security agencies in their efforts to maintain stability. In response, Rivers State Correctional Service Controller, Felix Madumere, expressed appreciation for the administrator’s directives and pledged cooperation to enhance security across the state.
