Popular and controversial social media personality Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, has announced his alleged arrest by Nigerian immigration authorities.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Bobrisky shared the news with followers, saying, “Guys, I have just been arrested by immigration in Nigeria. I don’t know what I did o.” However, immigration officials have yet to confirm the claim or provide any details regarding the alleged arrest.
Bobrisky, a social media sensation known for defying Nigeria’s conservative stance on gender identity, has frequently made headlines. He first gained fame as a crossdresser and later identified as a transgender woman.
His reported arrest comes months after he declared he had left Nigeria to focus on his well-being. It also follows his previous legal troubles, including a six-month prison sentence in April last year for abusing the naira by spraying money at a public event.
Following his release, activist VeryDarkMan shared an alleged audio recording in which Bobrisky reportedly claimed to have paid N15 million to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges. He also alleged that his “godfather” and Haliru Nababa, the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, facilitated his prison stay in a private apartment. Bobrisky denied these claims and threatened legal action.
Beyond controversies, Bobrisky has leveraged his social media influence for brand endorsements and sponsorship deals, frequently showcasing a lavish lifestyle and claiming to receive millions in gifts.
Last year, during a TikTok live session, Bobrisky announced his relocation to an undisclosed country where he said he is “officially recognised as female.” At the time, he vowed never to return to Nigeria, declaring, “Nothing will bring me back.”
Now, having returned, his alleged arrest has left fans speculating about the reasons behind it, as authorities remain silent on the matter.
