In a move aimed at tightening security and restoring order to the state’s transport sector, the Kwara State Government has introduced colour codes for all commercial vehicles and tricycles across the state.
Announced during a stakeholder meeting in Ilorin, the new directive mandates that all intra-state shuttle buses and tricycles be painted yellow with green stripes, while inter-state vehicles must adopt a green body with white stripes. Transporters have until September 30, 2025, to comply or face sanctions.
Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Korasabi, said the measure is part of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s broader plan to strengthen surveillance and protect residents from criminal elements exploiting the transport sector.
“The colour codes will make it easier to trace vehicles, verify operators, and generally sanitize the system,” Korasabi said. “Security is everyone’s business, and this is a step in the right direction.”
Leaders of major transport unions, including RTEAN, NURTW, TOAN, and NACT, endorsed the initiative and pledged full compliance. They agreed the move would help distinguish Kwara-based vehicles and reduce impersonation by outsiders with questionable motives.
The colour code policy, according to officials, is also aligned with Kwara’s ongoing Smart-City Project, which aims to modernize urban infrastructure, including public transportation, and create a safer environment for all.
