Former Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno), has praised President Bola Tinubu for appointing several Northerners to strategic positions in key federal agencies and parastatals, describing the move as a positive step toward balanced and inclusive governance.
President Tinubu, on Friday, named 12 individuals from the northern region to head various national institutions. Among the appointees are Yazid Shehu Umar Danfulani (Zamfara) as Managing Director of the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC); Alhaji Hamza Ibrahim Baba (Kano) as Programme Manager of the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP); Alhaji Abubakar Umar Jarengol (Adamawa) as Executive Director, Operations at NAIC; Barrister Sama’ila Audu (Katsina) as Executive Director, Administration at the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF); Professor Musa Garba Mai Tafsiri (Kebbi) as Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education; and Comrade Isa Aremu (Kwara) as Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), among others.
Ndume lauded the appointments as evidence of the President’s willingness to listen to constructive criticism and correct perceived imbalances. He recalled raising concerns in April over what he termed a deviation from the federal character principle in earlier appointments.
“President Tinubu is a fair-minded leader who responds to public concerns. While no one is perfect, a good leader makes amends when necessary. This round of appointments clearly aims to address previous lopsidedness,” Ndume said.
The senator emphasized that his criticisms were never personal but intended to promote fairness and national cohesion. He urged the newly appointed officials to live up to the expectations of Nigerians and deliver results that justify the trust placed in them.
Ndume reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and pledged continued support, while also committing to offer constructive feedback when necessary to help the administration succeed.
