Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South in the National Assembly, has raised serious concerns about the administration of President Bola Tinubu, claiming it has been overtaken by individuals he described as “kleptocrats” and “kakistocrats.”
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Sunday, Ndume criticized key figures within the presidency, alleging they are motivated by personal gain rather than national interest.
“I see people lying to the President and telling him only what he wants to hear,” Ndume said. “Those who are meant to guide him are instead misleading him and tarnishing his reputation.”
He accused the President’s inner circle of failing to serve as a proper support system, describing them as “unrealistic” individuals who have effectively “hijacked” the presidency.
“These are people who shouldn’t be in the positions they occupy,” he continued. “I’ve said it before, and I’m not backing down unless they change or the President intervenes. Right now, the government is largely dominated by kleptocrats—those who are in power for personal enrichment—and kakistocrats, those unfit for leadership.”
Ndume also expressed concern over what he sees as a disconnect between the presidency and the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.
“The President doesn’t see what’s happening on the ground. Even when he steps out, he’s shielded by tinted vehicles. Meanwhile, people are suffering. The President himself has acknowledged the hardship and asked for patience, but the suffering is real,” he said.
This isn’t the first time Ndume has criticized the current administration. In April, he challenged President Tinubu’s appointments, arguing that they failed to reflect the federal character principle. He also alleged that he faces backlash from Tinubu loyalists whenever he voices his concerns.
