The Akogun chieftaincy family of Oke-Ode in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has unanimously nominated Mr. AbdulGaniyu Kunle Akogun, Director of Corporate Affairs at the University of Ilorin, to occupy the vacant traditional stool of Akogun of Oke-Odeland.
This development was announced in a statement signed by Mr. Ismail Akogun, Secretary of the Akogun Chieftaincy Family Forum (ACFF), following the family’s 2025 Annual Reunion/General Meeting held on Sunday in Oke-Ode.
The stool became vacant after the passing of the sixth Akogun, Chief AbdulRauf Tunde Akogun, on January 10, 2024. The family said the nomination of Mr. Akogun is in anticipation of formal ratification once a new Elesa of Oke-Ode is installed.
Chairman of the Akogun Chieftaincy Family Forum and Chief Imam of Ifelodun Pako Central Mosque, Amukoko, Lagos, offered prayers for the installation of a visionary and people-focused Elesa, and for continued peace and progress in Oke-Ode.
The Akogun title, rooted in the Akogun Boogun Compound, has a long history in Oke-Ode and has been held by six successive titleholders—Chiefs Awodokun, Sikako, Ayilara, Salami, Yusuf, and most recently, AbdulRauf Akogun—all of whom were known for their dedication to the town’s socio-cultural, economic, and political development.
The newly nominated Akogun, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Kunle Akogun, is widely respected for his commitment to community development. As a seasoned journalist and public relations professional, he has used his platform to spotlight and advance the cause of Oke-Ode both within and outside Nigeria.
In addition to his role at UNILORIN, Mr. Akogun serves as the National Public Relations Officer of the Oke-Ode community, a former National Publicity Secretary of the Igbomina Professionals Association (IPA), and Vice Chairman of the Igbomina-Ekiti Muslims Forum (IEMF). He is credited with facilitating university admissions and championing various initiatives that have positively impacted youth and development efforts in the town.
