The Kwara State Government has raised the alarm over a potential risk of flooding in parts of the state, especially in Jebba and surrounding communities within Moro Local Government Area. The alert follows a national flood risk warning issued by the National Flood Early Warning Systems Centre in Abuja, based on forecasts of heavy rainfall in the coming days.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the government urged residents in flood-prone areas to take precautionary measures, as the warning comes at the height of the rainy season—a period typically marked by intense downpours, flash floods, and major disruptions.
Although no emergency flooding has been reported in Kwara so far, the government is encouraging early preparedness to protect lives and property.
Residents in low-lying areas are advised to:
- Move to higher and safer grounds when necessary
- Avoid waterlogged roads and submerged areas during rainfall
- Clear drainage channels and ensure free flow of water around their homes
- Stay updated with official weather alerts
- Report early signs of flooding to local authorities
The public notice, signed by Ashaolu Omotola, Press Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the state’s commitment to minimizing flood-related risks. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with authorities as weather conditions evolve.
