In a surprise move, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, has resigned from his position effective immediately. Ngelale cited pressing medical matters affecting his immediate family as the reason for his departure.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Saturday, Ngelale announced that he had submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, informing him of his decision to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence. Ngelale also stepped down from his roles as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
Ngelale, who was appointed to his position on August 1, 2023, expressed his hope to return to full-time national service when his family’s health issues are resolved. He respectfully requested privacy for his family during this challenging time.
The sudden departure of Ngelale, a key figure in the President’s communication team, has raised questions about the future of the administration’s media strategy. The Presidency has yet to announce a replacement for Ngelale’s position.
