The Academy of Islamic Propagation (ACADIP) has expressed concern over the unregulated use of social media in Nigeria, highlighting that many users inadvertently engage in unlawful activities online. This issue was addressed by ACADIP’s Vice President, Mr. U.S. Imam, during a press briefing in Osogbo on Wednesday, marking the commencement of the organization’s 30th-anniversary celebrations.
Mr. Imam, a legal practitioner, noted that ACADIP’s leader, Mallam Yusuf Adepoju, and its members have been targets of online attacks, leading the group to seek legal protection against cyberbullying. He stated, “In Nigeria, we are using social media unrestrictedly. Social media has no regulation, which is why it is being abused.”
Reflecting on ACADIP’s three-decade journey, Mallam Adepoju reported that the organization has facilitated over 15,000 conversions to Islam worldwide. He identified challenges such as inadequate funding and public misconceptions about the group’s mission.
To commemorate its 30th anniversary, ACADIP has planned a series of events, including visits to hospitals, orphanages, and correctional centers in Nigerian communities where it operates. The celebrations will feature a special Jumaat service and an event at the University of Ibadan’s International Conference Centre, where 50 distinguished scholars and preachers will receive awards of excellence. The five-day festivities will conclude with a fundraising ceremony for the proposed ACADIP University and the presentation of special awards to notable individuals, including the Asiwaju Musulumi of Oyo State, Alhaji Mutiullah Oladejo.
