Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has issued a stern warning to the traditional rulers of Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun, instructing them to sustain peace in their communities or risk being removed from their thrones.
The governor’s directive follows renewed tensions in these areas, which have been embroiled in violent clashes over long-standing boundary disputes, leading to loss of lives and massive destruction of properties worth billions of naira.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke emphasized that any monarch who fails to prevent further violence would be held accountable and could face dethronement.
“During the Sallah celebrations, I received reports that certain individuals were plotting to reignite the conflict in Ifon, Ilobu, and Erin Osun. Security agencies have heightened surveillance to prevent any attacks,” Adeleke stated.
He further warned that the state’s curfew, which was recently relaxed for humanitarian reasons, would be fully reinstated if any group attempted to exploit the situation for renewed violence.
Additionally, the governor reiterated his commitment to ensuring accountability, stating that security operatives were already interrogating key figures involved in the conflict.
“Traditional rulers must call their subjects to order. Any town where violence erupts again will see its ruler removed. I will wield the big stick. Enough is enough,” Adeleke declared.
With tensions still simmering, the governor’s ultimatum signals a firm stance on maintaining law and orderPp in the state.
