In the aftermath of a tragic attack that left 37 people dead in Karim-Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State, Police Commissioner Emmanuel S. Bretet has called on community leaders to encourage residents to stay in safe locations and work closely with security forces.
The appeal came through a statement from Police Public Relations Officer James Leshen, following an on-site visit to the affected communities.
The incident, reportedly carried out by suspected herders last Saturday, plunged the area into mourning.
Commissioner Bretet condemned the violence and announced an immediate review of the security arrangements in the region, with extra personnel deployed to restore calm and reassure residents.
He emphasized the importance of peace and unity, urging leaders to help calm tensions. “Our aim is to restore peace. We must uphold the law, and anyone found inciting violence will face justice,” Bretet stated firmly.
Reassuring the public, the police chief affirmed the command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, noting that steps have been taken to bring stability back to the communities.
Karim-Lamido Council Chairman, Bitrus Danjos, praised the police for their swift response and promised to cooperate fully by sharing intelligence with security agencies across the state.
