Chief Charles Udeogaranya, a former presidential aspirant and prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the party’s leadership to reject any plans to grant President Bola Tinubu an automatic ticket for the 2027 election.
In a statement released on Saturday, Udeogaranya warned that he would take legal action against the party if it denies him the opportunity to contest for the presidential ticket. He emphasized that even if he does not secure the nomination, he would be satisfied as long as the party upholds democratic principles.
Highlighting his constitutional right to vote and be voted for, Udeogaranya insisted that the APC must conduct a transparent and democratic selection process. “Democracy, in practice, means providing equal opportunity, privilege, and incentive to all,” he said. “How can that be the case when the party appears to have endorsed a yet-to-declare aspirant?”
He urged the APC to demonstrate true internal democracy and ensure a level playing field for all contenders.
