After several postponements, the Port Harcourt Refinery has finally commenced fuel production. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) confirmed this significant development on Tuesday. NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, announced that truck loading would start immediately.
“This marks a monumental achievement for Nigeria as the Port Harcourt Refinery officially begins crude oil processing,” Soneye said. “This groundbreaking milestone signifies a new era of energy independence and economic growth for our nation,” he added.
The commencement of production at the Port Harcourt Refinery ends a series of failed deadlines and is a major step towards reducing Nigeria’s reliance on imported petroleum products. The refinery is currently running at 60% capacity, with plans to increase this as operations stabilize.
