Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has openly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s approach to the fuel subsidy crisis, referring to him as “TPain” in a tweet on Thursday. Atiku attributed Nigeria’s current economic challenges, including rising inflation, to what he called the “haphazard and disingenuous” fuel subsidy management by the Tinubu administration.
In his statement, Atiku expressed deep concern over the escalating inflation rate, which he said is worsening the lives of ordinary Nigerians. He criticized Tinubu for appearing unconcerned by the growing hardships faced by citizens, noting that the economic situation shows no signs of improving.
“The haphazard and disingenuous approach of the current administration to fuel subsidy management has been the reason we are in this current economic crisis in the country,” Atiku wrote. “As things stand, there will be no let-up in the escalating inflation rate, which is drowning the material well-being of Nigerians.”
The nickname “TPain,” a play on the first letter of Tinubu’s name and the American rapper T-Pain, has gained popularity on social media platforms like X and Instagram, reflecting public frustration over the rising cost of living.
As economic hardships continue, the term “TPain” has become symbolic of the frustrations surrounding Tinubu’s handling of the country’s economic challenges.
