The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has joined citizens across Kwara State and Nigeria in honouring the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
In a tribute released on Tuesday, the youth-led organisation described the Emir as a “towering symbol of wisdom, service, and peace,” lauding his near three-decade reign for its unwavering commitment to unity, justice, and community development.
“His Royal Highness embodies the values we strive to uphold at BBYDI—justice, inclusiveness, and courage,” said Nurah Jimoh-Sanni, Executive Director of BBYDI. “His visible support for our gender-based violence (GBV) prevention work has empowered countless communities to speak out, take action, and create safer spaces for women and girls. We are honoured to have him as a partner in this vital work.”
The organisation credited the Emir for lending crucial support to their campaigns against gender-based violence, noting that his influence helped galvanise local leaders and foster meaningful dialogue across generations.
Widely respected across Nigeria, Alhaji Sulu-Gambari’s leadership has stretched beyond royal duties. His distinguished career began in the judiciary before ascending the Ilorin Emirate throne, where he has since become a key voice in Nigeria’s traditional and democratic spheres.
As Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, and Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University, Ilorin, the Emir has continued to champion education and youth empowerment. BBYDI highlighted his consistent advocacy for interfaith harmony and sustainable development as key pillars of his legacy.
“As he celebrates this milestone, we honour not just the longevity of his reign, but the depth of his impact,” Jimoh-Sanni added. “May his legacy continue to inspire unity, uphold justice, and strengthen the bonds that hold our communities together.”
The organisation concluded by extending best wishes to the Emir for continued health and impactful leadership.
