The Borno State Government has donated N300 million to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum announced the donation during a condolence visit to the Niger State Government House in Minna, where he led a delegation from Borno State. He stated that the gesture was aimed at complementing efforts by the Niger State Government in responding to the humanitarian crisis caused by the disaster.
While sympathising with the people and government of Niger State over the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property, Governor Zulum stressed the need for sub-national governments to work collaboratively to address the growing impact of climate change. He also urged the Federal Government to implement a comprehensive framework to tackle such environmental challenges.
In his remarks, Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for the visit and generous donation, describing it as a timely intervention and a demonstration of solidarity.
Governor Bago noted the longstanding relationship between the two states and commended Zulum’s leadership qualities, including his resilience and dedication to public service. He assured that the funds would be put to proper use and revealed that ongoing public awareness campaigns are encouraging residents to avoid flood-prone areas to prevent future disasters.
