The Zone 2 Police Command in Lagos has dismantled a human trafficking syndicate that lured young women between the ages of 19 and 21 into sex work in Mauritania. Two female suspects were apprehended at their recruitment base in the Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos.
One of the suspects reportedly admitted to receiving ₦50,000 for each woman she recruited, shockingly revealing that among her victims was her own 19-year-old daughter. She further confessed to working for a Mauritania-based trafficker named Anabel, to whom she had already sent several young women, earning a total of ₦500,000 in commission.
Meanwhile, the police also intercepted a planned attack by suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity in Ijebu-Ife, Ogun State, leading to the arrest of a 54-year-old gang member. Weapons, fake voter’s cards, and live ammunition were seized from their hideout.
The police, led by the Zonal Intelligence Response Squad (ZIRS), continue their crackdown on human trafficking and cult-related crimes, vowing to bring all perpetrators to justice.
