The member representing Oshimili South Local Government at Delta State House of Assembly, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu, on Tuesday unveiled a free medical outreach to the popular Oko (Hausa) market in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The lawmaker explained that the gesture is to ensure that traders including men and women maintain healthy living to enable them render important service of bringing food stuffs from different parts of the country to Asaba in line with the MORE agenda of governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
She said, “The free medical outreach is market to market, we are reaching every corner of Oshimili South’ testing, treating and registering lives under the Delta State Contributory Health scheme.
“I have brought these doctors and nurses and lab scientists to you in the market because of your busy schedule. You don’t have time to check your health status.
We have come here to make sure that you are healthy.
These days, you hear that somebody is working or selling and suddenly fall and die because he or she has not been checking health status.
“We started this free medical outreach in Ogbogonogo market and today, we are in Oko market, tomorrow, the outreach will move another to market. We will reach out to markets in my constituency
‘’Those traders are in the market 24 hours selling to people and they don’t have time to go to hospital, that’s the reason why we are here.
“We don’t want to lose any market woman or man in Oshimili South like we lost last year while they are doing their best to make sure food get to every table of Oshimili South, we the government will do our best to ensure we make them healthier”
The lawmaker called on the traders not to toy with their health and take the outreach opportunity to know their health status.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Oko General (Hausa) market, MrHarunaBabangida commended the Anyafulu for bringing free medical service to the market.
He said, “It is true that we don’t have time to check our health. These days nobody is healthy. You will see will somebody suddenly fall and before you know it, they said is dead.
“This free medical treatment is what government supposed to be providing for the poor masses to make them healthy.
Drugs worth millions of naira were given to over 500 market women and men after testing.
