The House of Representatives has announced the passing of Hon. Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, the lawmaker representing the Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency of Ogun State.
The announcement was conveyed in a statement issued by the House’s spokesperson, Akintunde Rotimi. He revealed that the Ogun lawmaker died on Wednesday, January 15, following a brief illness.
Rotimi praised the late Onanuga’s leadership, stating:
“She was appointed Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Assembly, a role in which she exhibited exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to legislative discipline during parliamentary sessions.
“She was a dedicated public servant, a visionary leader, and a passionate advocate for her constituents. Fondly known as ‘Ijaya,’ her intellect, humility, and passion for excellence earned her immense respect among colleagues and constituents. Her impactful contributions to Nigeria’s political landscape were driven by her tireless commitment to public service and the pursuit of a better society.”
The House of Representatives extended condolences to her family, friends, associates, and the people of Ogun State, particularly her Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North constituency. Rotimi added:
