The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) saved a driver after a 40-foot loaded container fell on his Toyota Camry with the registration number LSR 293 HJ at Mile 2, en route to Apapa.
The incident, which occurred on Monday morning, saw the swift and coordinated response of LASTMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA). The joint rescue team managed to extricate the driver alive from the wreckage and rushed him to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Security during the operation was effectively maintained by officers from the Kirikiri Police Division, ensuring a secure environment for the emergency responders. Following the rescue, the Toyota Camry was successfully removed from beneath the container, and efforts to evacuate the fallen container are ongoing.
Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the General Manager of LASTMA, emphasized the critical importance of properly securing containers on trucks, warning that negligence in this regard endangers lives and property. He urged truck drivers and owners to strictly adhere to road safety protocols to prevent such catastrophic occurrences.
