The Department of State Services (DSS) has apprehended a 32-year-old blogger, Sylvester Victor Augustus, for allegedly creating a fake DSS website to defraud unsuspecting individuals through a phony recruitment scheme.
Augustus, a resident of Akpan Eno Street in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State and a graduate of the University of Uyo, was arrested on Thursday after DSS operatives tracked him to his residence.
The suspect allegedly posed as a content creator while using the counterfeit DSS website to advertise non-existent job opportunities, duping victims into paying money under the guise of job applications.
In a swift response, the DSS publicly disclaimed the fraudulent recruitment announcement, labeling it a scam and urging citizens to disregard it.
A source within the agency revealed that Augustus would soon be charged to court for his actions.
