The Edo State Government has disclosed that over 200 official vehicles are currently missing from its inventory. The news comes as a committee, established to address the issue, has successfully recovered three of these vehicles within 24 hours of its formation.
Chairman of the Recovery Committee, Kelly Okungbowa, announced the recovery during a press briefing in Benin City. The recovered vehicles include one Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses, with some palliatives such as bags of garri and rice also found in one of the buses.
Okungbowa urged former government officials and other citizens in possession of these vehicles to return them within 48 hours, promising handsome rewards for whistleblowers who provide information leading to the recovery of more vehicles. He emphasized that these vehicles are public property and should not be in private hands.
The committee is backed by security agencies and has vowed to recover all missing vehicles to the best of its ability. The Edo State Government remains committed to ensuring that all government assets are accounted for and returned to their rightful place.
