Baltasar Engonga, Director General of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been arrested following a scandal involving over 400 sextapes, reportedly featuring intimate encounters with the wives of prominent officials. Initially under investigation for fraud, an unannounced search of Engonga’s residence and office uncovered CDs containing these recordings, sparking a national media storm.
Local media outlet Ahora EG reported that some videos allegedly involved relatives and spouses of senior government figures, including the President’s sister and the wife of the Director General of Police. While Engonga claims the recordings were consensual, their recent leak has ignited widespread backlash.
In a statement, the Equatorial Guinea government condemned Engonga’s actions as a violation of public trust and emphasized its “zero tolerance” policy toward misconduct within public service. The Vice President also voiced concerns, emphasizing that “ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration.”
The Attorney General, Nzang Nguema, clarified that although consensual, the situation poses health risks and threatens the public’s confidence in government institutions.
