The Ogun State Police Command’s Odeda Division has detained Akintoye Waris for allegedly stealing and slaughtering a Savannah he-goat worth N200,000 to celebrate his daughter’s naming ceremony. The arrest, which took place on January 2, 2025, also saw the apprehension of his accomplice, Ajayi Yusuf.
The suspects targeted a farm on December 25, 2024, taking advantage of the farm owner Mark’s absence as he had taken the cattle for grazing. Upon his return, Mark realized one of his goats was missing and alerted the community. Local witnesses reported seeing Waris and Yusuf transporting the goat on a motorcycle towards Olodo town.
Acting swiftly on this information, detectives mobilized and nabbed the suspects in the early hours of January 2, 2025. During questioning, both Waris and Yusuf confessed to stealing and slaughtering the goat on December 27, 2024, to prepare food for the naming ceremony.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola confirmed that the suspects would face prosecution once investigations are complete. She also assured the public of timely updates on further developments in the case.
