The Federal Government has disbursed funds to cover the withheld salaries of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU), according to Mr. Bawa Mokwa, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF). Mokwa announced in a statement from Abuja on Saturday that payments have begun, with many NASU members already confirming receipt.
The government also released funds for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS). Mokwa emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting Nigerian workers and retirees.
This development comes as NASU and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) continue a nationwide strike, which began on Monday. SSANU President Mohammed Ibrahim stated that the strike will persist for the next seven days unless the government addresses the unions’ concerns over payment disparities.
