The Federal Ministry of Works has issued a 14-day final termination notice to Julius Berger Plc, the contractor responsible for Section One of the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway rehabilitation, citing non-compliance with revised project terms, cost, and scope. The Ministry stated that despite months of negotiation, no resolution was reached, leading to a management decision on Monday to formally dismiss the company from the project without further negotiations.
Director of Press and Public Relations, Mohammed Ahmed, disclosed that the contract’s scope was recently revised, yet Julius Berger had not resumed work or attended a critical meeting this week. According to the Ministry, Section One (Abuja-Kaduna) had seen only 27% progress over six years, prompting Minister David Umahi to reallocate portions of the work to other companies.
Initially awarded in 2017, the contract has experienced multiple delays and cost adjustments, with portions of Sections Two and Three completed. The latest project rescope includes a 38 km segment allocated to Dangote Industries for concrete paving, with a targeted 14-month timeline.
This contract termination is one of several recent actions by Minister Umahi, who has revoked a total of 11 contracts in the past 16 months under the infrastructure push of the “Renewed Hope Agenda.”
