Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has transmitted the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
The bill’s arrival was formally announced during Tuesday’s plenary, following the reading of the Governor’s letter by Speaker Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu. The proposed legislation was subsequently referred to the House Committee on Business and Rules for scheduling and further legislative action.
In a related development, the Kwara State Electric Power Sector Bill scaled second reading on the floor of the Assembly.
Leading the debate, Hon. Rukayat Shittu, member representing Owode-Onire Constituency and prime mover of the bill, appealed for accelerated passage, stressing its significance in improving electricity access across the state.
Several lawmakers echoed her call, noting the bill’s potential to boost local electricity generation, enhance distribution networks, and reduce reliance on the national grid.
Speaker Danladi-Salihu commended the contributions and directed the House Committee on Energy to handle further scrutiny of the bill and present its report without delay.
The proposed legislation seeks to revolutionize the state’s energy landscape by enabling autonomous power solutions for underserved communities and improving overall power infrastructure.
