Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has renamed several iconic projects across the state in honor of notable Nigerian leaders, sports legends, and historic figures. The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is at the top of the list, with the newly reconstructed Civil Service Clinic now bearing her name.
The multibillion-naira clinic, which is being rebuilt into a multi-story health facility, will have its groundbreaking ceremony performed by Senator Tinubu during her official visit to Kwara State from January 28 to 30, 2025.
During her visit, the First Lady will also inaugurate several significant projects, including the Unity Flyover, an ultramodern Intensive Care Unit, the Executive Ward, and the Gen. Tunde Idiagbon Flyover, which was previously named in honor of the late military leader. The road leading to the flyover has also been renamed Tafawa Balewa Road, in tribute to Nigeria’s first Prime Minister.
Governor AbdulRazaq has further honored other influential figures with the renaming of key state facilities. The ICT Centre at the Kwara State University of Education will now be known as the Amina Ndalolo ICT Centre, recognizing the contributions of the former minister and a prominent figure from Kwara North. Similarly, the executive ward at the Kwara State Teaching Hospital has been renamed after the late Dr. Amuda Aluko, a distinguished physician and politician.
The state’s first secretariat has been renamed the Brigadier General David Bamigboye Secretariat, in memory of the first military administrator of the old Kwara State. Meanwhile, the new secretariat will now bear the name Rear Admiral Muhammed Alabi Lawal Secretariat, after the former governor who led the state from 1999 to 2003.
In the realm of sports, the Kwara State Stadium Complex will now be known as the Major-General George Agbazika Innih Stadium Complex, celebrating the contributions of the former military governor. The main bowl of the stadium has also been renamed after Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria’s football legend and first World Cup goal scorer.
The governor’s decision to rename these facilities reflects a commitment to preserving the legacy of both past and present figures who have made impactful contributions to the state and nation. Senator Tinubu’s visit is expected to highlight the government’s dedication to infrastructure development and its recognition of excellence across various sectors.
