On Monday, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum began distributing 100 trucks of food items donated by President Bola Tinubu to the state. The distribution took place in Ngala Local Government Area and included maize, sorghum, and millet.
During the flag-off event, Zulum explained that Ngala was chosen due to recent flooding that isolated the town from the rest of Nigeria and disrupted food supplies. “This town was completely cut off from the rest of the country for about four months due to heavy rainfall and flooding. The movement of food items to Ngala was obstructed. This informed our visit today to provide relief and cushion the hardships faced by the people,” he said.
Governor Zulum expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and federal agencies for their support in aiding vulnerable individuals. He highlighted that all the distributed food items were donated by President Tinubu, who provided 100 trucks of assorted grains, including maize, millet, and sorghum. Additionally, the federal government supplied 100 trucks of rice for victims of the Maiduguri flood disaster.
“Let me use this opportunity to commend the federal government, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for supporting our people in their time of need,” Zulum added.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to assisting vulnerable individuals, Zulum announced plans to shift focus from food distribution to supporting residents through irrigation projects in resettled communities. “The state government has implemented medium- and long-term sustainable solutions that will ensure people can cultivate their lands all year round. We are establishing numerous irrigation structures, particularly in Ngala Local Government Area,” he noted.
