Ibadan — The Chief Imam of Fodacis Mosque, Imam Alli Oro-Owuye, has cautioned Muslims against using unhealthy rams for the upcoming Eid al-Adha sacrifice.
Delivering the Friday sermon on June 6, 2025, at the Fodacis Mosque in Ibadan, the Imam emphasized the religious importance of offering only healthy animals. “It’s not just about buying a ram,” he stated. “If the ram is blind or sick, it is not acceptable for sacrifice. Beyond that, the meat should not be consumed alongside alcohol.”
Following the Eid prayers, our correspondent Jimoh Mustapha, spoke with several worshipers, including the Chief Imam, about the impact of inflation on preparations for the festival and the deeper significance of the celebration.
Imam Oro-Owuye noted that Eid al-Adha goes beyond the symbolic sacrifice, as it also fosters generosity and support for the less privileged through the sharing of meat and financial gifts.
Dr. Daud Adepoju, Chairman of olohunkemi Mosque, highlighted the financial strain brought on by rising prices, attributing part of the challenge to disruptions in transportation routes, particularly around the Mokwa Bridge which links the northern and southern parts of the country.
Another worshiper, Mr. Jimoh Fatai Adekunle, emphasized the festival’s role in strengthening family ties. “It’s a rare opportunity for families to come together,” he said. “This reunion promotes love, unity, and bonding.”
As festivities continue across Ibadan, many Muslims are extending support to the needy, upholding the spirit of compassion and community that defines Eid al-Adha.
