The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed the petition to recall Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, citing failure to meet constitutional requirements.
In an official statement, INEC revealed that its review of the petition found that the number of valid signatures fell short of the threshold set by the Nigerian Constitution. The petition, which required support from more than half of the registered voters in Kogi Central, only secured 208,132 signatures—43.86% of the electorate—falling short by 29,146 signatories.
As a result, INEC announced that no further action would be taken on the recall. The commission assured Nigerians that the process was conducted fairly and in line with legal guidelines. It also released a public notice detailing the outcome, which was shared with the Senate and made available on its website and social media platforms.
With this decision, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains in office, marking a victory for her and her supporters amid the political battle in Kogi Central.
