Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has taken decisive action to address the plight of state-sponsored students unable to access their academic certificates due to unpaid tuition fees by the previous administration.
In a statement issued on Monday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa, the governor revealed that he had engaged in critical discussions with the management of Near East University in Cyprus. The meeting focused on resolving the delayed release of certificates for students who graduated between 2015 and 2019, particularly in Medicine and Nursing.
Tofa disclosed that the unpaid fees under the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje have hindered these graduates from advancing their careers, depriving Kano State of much-needed professionals in key sectors like healthcare.
Governor Yusuf described the situation as a setback for both the students and the state, emphasizing the urgent need to resolve the matter. After “fruitful discussions,” he expressed optimism about clearing the outstanding liabilities to facilitate the release of the certificates.
“This situation has hindered the dreams and aspirations of our children while depriving the state of their expertise. It is a shame that the previous administration failed to fulfil this obligation,” Yusuf stated.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment, he added, “We will continue to prioritise education and the welfare of our people as the bedrock of sustainable development.”
