In an inspiring development, Kwara-born Yakub Shukurat has been officially unveiled as the Girl Child Education Ambassador for Gombe State. The prestigious honor came as part of the “Girl Child Education Conference” held in Abuja, marking the ‘International Day of the Girl Child’ on October 11, 2024, at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa.
Shukurat, a graduate of Mass Communication from Kwara State Polytechnic, was nominated by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe to represent the state at the national conference. She was decorated alongside 35 other Corps members, each representing their respective states of service, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), making a total of 37 Girl Child Ambassadors for the nation.
Her appointment is a testament to her dedication and commitment to community development, particularly in the area of education. Known for her active volunteerism, Shukurat has lent her skills and time to numerous causes. She is notably involved with the ‘Countryside Emerging Leaders Fellowship’, an initiative of the Hashim Initiative for Community Advancement, convened by Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe. Her wealth of experience in community service and her advocacy for youth empowerment are cited as key factors contributing to her nomination for this significant role.
